How to create a digital catalog for your website
Turn a PDF or your store's products into a catalog customers can browse and buy from on your own site. What makes a digital catalog work, two ways to build one, and where to put it.

A note before you read: we make Real3D Flipbook, one of the six plugins below. We have tried to keep this comparison fair. Every price and feature for the other plugins comes from the vendor’s own website, documentation or wordpress.org listing, checked on the date above, and each section says where that plugin is the better choice.
| Best for | Plugin | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Catalogs, magazines and a realistic page turn | Real3D Flipbook | WebGL page turn, six view modes, selling and members-only addons, lowest lifetime price |
| The most established option | DearFlip | 200,000+ installs of its free edition, around since 2017 |
| A WebGL flipbook on a small yearly budget | 3D FlipBook | $39 a year, visual page editor |
| Membership and course sites | TNC FlipBook | Every add-on in one plan, including MemberPress and LearnDash |
| A simple viewer on many sites | Flipa | Light 2D viewer, unlimited sites for $149 a year |
| PDFs next to videos, maps and other embeds | EmbedPress | One plugin for PDFs and 150+ embed sources |
| Plugin | 1 site, yearly | Lifetime | More sites (yearly) | Money-back period |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Real3D Flipbook | $49 | $69 (1 site) | 3 sites $99, 20 sites $229 | 30 days |
| Real3D + all 7 addons | $69 | $99 (1 site) | 3 sites $159, 20 sites $319 | 30 days |
| DearFlip Starter | $39 | $119 (1 site) | — | 30 days |
| DearFlip Pro | $59 | $179 (1 site) | 5 sites $99, 30 sites $199 | 30 days |
| 3D FlipBook | $39 | $119 (1 site) | 3 sites $79, 7 sites $119, 30 sites $239 | 30 days |

| Flipa | $39 | $99 (1 site) | 5 sites $79, unlimited $149 | 14 days |
| EmbedPress | $69 ($55 on sale when checked) | unlimited sites only, $249 to $499 depending on the offer | unlimited $199 ($149 on sale) | 14 days |
Real3D’s one-site lifetime licence is the lowest of the six, with or without the addons. For yearly plans, 3D FlipBook, Flipa and DearFlip Starter are the cheapest at $39. The money-back terms differ in detail, so read each vendor’s policy; ours gives a full refund within 30 days when we can’t fix a problem that makes the plugin unusable.

“Not listed” means the vendor’s site did not mention the feature on the date we checked. It may exist. DearFlip’s answers on text selection and password-protected PDFs come from its author on the wordpress.org support forum, and 3D FlipBook’s on text selection from its own Q&A.
The thing readers notice first is not a feature on a pricing page: it is how long the first page takes, and whether pages turn white for a moment when they flip quickly. We did not run a lab test of all six plugins, so here is what decides it, what Real3D does, and how to check any plugin yourself.
What decides it.
What Real3D does.
How to check any plugin. Open the vendor’s demo on a phone, then flip quickly through twenty pages. Count the white pages and spinners. Then open the browser’s developer tools, set the network to “Fast 4G”, reload and see how long the cover takes. Do the same with your own PDF if the vendor has a trial or a money-back period.
Every plugin lets you change colors. The difference is how far the rest of the viewer can be shaped to the site.
In Real3D the toolbar has 8 layouts (bottom bar, top bar, top corners, bottom corners, top pill, pill, player and minimal), chosen from picture previews and also per embed with the layout shortcode parameter. There are light, dark and gradient skins, two icon sets, button and background colors or images, and a table of every toolbar button where you switch it on or off, rename it and drag it into order. Phones get their own settings, so the toolbar and view mode can differ on mobile. The homepage has a live panel where you can switch layouts, skins and icons on a book and see the result.
The others publish less here: DearFlip offers a top, bottom or floating toolbar with customizable controls and text, 3D FlipBook skins and templates (with an extra skins pack), TNC toolbar positions and color schemes, Flipa background colors and images, and EmbedPress custom branding.
What it is. A flipbook plugin built on the same viewer as our Shopify and Wix apps and JavaScript library, sold since 2015, with more than 22,800 sales on CodeCanyon and a 4.55-star rating there.
Strong points.
Where others do better. TNC’s single plan covers more integrations, especially membership and LMS plugins. Flipa is lighter if you only need a simple 2D viewer. The addons cost extra unless you take the bundle.
Best for catalogs, magazines and brochures where the page turn and reading experience are part of the point.
What it is. One of the longest-running flipbook plugins for WordPress, available since 2017, with more than 200,000 active installs of its free edition on wordpress.org.
Strong points. Mature, well documented and very widely used. Pro adds a bookshelf, spiral and calendar layouts, flipbook post URLs and basic analytics. It also has Shopify and JavaScript versions. Staging and development sites do not count against the licence, and yearly licences can be upgraded to lifetime.
Where others do better. Text in the flipbook cannot be selected, and password-protected PDFs are not supported. There is no page editor beyond the PDF’s own links, and no Elementor widget yet. Search and print are not available on mobile. The one-site lifetime licence is the most expensive after TNC’s.
Best for sites that want the most established option, or need the bookshelf or calendar mode.
What it is. A WebGL flipbook plugin by iberezansky, with 70,000+ active installs of its free edition and a 4.8-star rating. Its engine also powers the flipbook in EmbedPress.
Strong points. The cheapest yearly licence ($39), a three.js page turn, and a visual page editor for links, video, audio, images and HTML. The paid version mainly adds settings: default skins, templates and lightboxes, zoom limits, toolbar buttons and Google Analytics configuration.
Where others do better. It has only the 3D page turn, with no swipe, scroll or CSS fallback, and text cannot be selected. WooCommerce selling, members-only pages and an Elementor widget are not offered, and a skins pack is sold separately. Its last feature release was in August 2024; the updates since then are maintenance and security releases.
Best for a WebGL flipbook on a tight yearly budget.
What it is. A WebGL flipbook plugin by ThemeNcode, makers of the earlier “PDF viewer for WordPress”, relaunched on wordpress.org in July 2026 with 400+ active installs.
Strong points. One plan includes every add-on, present and future: page builders (Elementor, Divi, WPBakery, Avada, Beaver Builder, Bricks, Breakdance), membership and LMS plugins (MemberPress, LearnDash and others), WooCommerce, hotspots, AI read-aloud, watermarks, bookmarks and notes. Text can be selected and searched.
Where others do better. The one-site lifetime licence is the most expensive of the six ($295). It is the newest WebGL plugin here, so it has the shortest track record. The vendor’s site shows both a 7-day and a 14-day money-back period.
Best for sites that depend on a membership, LMS or page-builder integration the others do not list.
What it is. A lightweight PDF flipbook plugin added to wordpress.org in June 2026, with 800+ active installs and a new version every few days.
Strong points. A 2D page turn with no WebGL, which keeps it light. 20 interface languages with right-to-left support. Pro adds search, print and download, table of contents, links, sounds, a viewer password, WooCommerce product-page display, page builders, a bookshelf and a calendar mode. The unlimited-sites plan ($149 a year) is good value for agencies.
Where others do better. No 3D page turn, no page editor beyond PDF links, and PDFs only (no image flipbooks). It is still before version 1.0, and the money-back period is 14 days.
Best for simple flipbooks across many sites, or where a light 2D viewer is preferred.
What it is. A general embedding plugin by WPDeveloper with 100,000+ active installs and a 4.8-star rating. It embeds content from more than 150 sources, and PDFs can be shown as a 3D flipbook using the 3D FlipBook engine.
Strong points. One plugin for PDFs, videos, maps, social posts and documents, with Gutenberg and Elementor support. Pro adds custom branding and analytics for embedded content.
Where others do better. The flipbook is one feature among many, so flipbook-specific options such as other view modes, a page editor, selling or members-only previews are not listed. There is no one-site lifetime licence, and the money-back period is 14 days.
Best for sites that embed many kinds of content and want PDFs as flipbooks in the same tool.
It depends on the job. For catalogs and magazines where the page turn matters, Real3D Flipbook. For the most established option, DearFlip. For membership and course sites, TNC FlipBook. For a light viewer on many sites, Flipa. The table at the top of this post has the short version.
Install the plugin, create a flipbook from your PDF and paste its shortcode or block into a page. Our step-by-step guide covers it: how to turn a PDF into a flipbook on WordPress. If you only need to show a PDF, see how to embed a PDF in WordPress.
For one site, Real3D Flipbook at $69, followed by Flipa at $99 and DearFlip Starter and 3D FlipBook at $119. Real3D with all seven addons is $99 for life.
Yes. Real3D’s WooCommerce addon shows a preview to visitors and the full publication to buyers, including subscriptions, and TNC includes WooCommerce gating in its plan. Flipa can show a flipbook on a product page. Our guide to selling or protecting a flipbook covers the setups.
Real3D, TNC, Flipa and EmbedPress have Elementor support. DearFlip lists an Elementor widget on its roadmap. 3D FlipBook offers a WPBakery add-on. Any of them can be placed with a shortcode.
They can. Put books further down the page in a lightbox, so nothing loads until a reader opens one, and keep PDFs exported for screens. Our loading speed checklist goes through it step by step.
If you need selectable text, password-protected PDFs, a page editor, an Elementor widget or WooCommerce selling, look at Real3D Flipbook or TNC FlipBook. If you want a lighter 2D viewer, look at Flipa.
For magazines and catalogs, a realistic page turn is part of the appeal. For reports, manuals and anything people search, a scroll or swipe view is often easier to read. See which flipbook view mode to use.
There is no single best plugin. If the reading experience is the reason you want a flipbook, Real3D’s realistic page turn and view modes are what we built it for, and you can try it with your own PDF in the browser before you decide. If you need a specific membership or LMS integration, look at TNC first. If you want a light viewer on many sites, look at Flipa. DearFlip and 3D FlipBook are both solid, established choices, and EmbedPress suits sites that embed many kinds of content.
Turn a PDF or your store's products into a catalog customers can browse and buy from on your own site. What makes a digital catalog work, two ways to build one, and where to put it.
A WordPress PDF viewer should work on phones, open fast, keep text searchable and let you decide about downloads. What to look for, scroll viewer or page flip, and setup in a few minutes.
A download link, the File block, a Google Drive embed or a PDF viewer plugin. What each one looks like to readers, how it behaves on phones, and when to use it.
